Indications for use
The product is used to prevent pregnancy.
Mechanism of action
Options Gynol II is made with the powerful sperm-killer Nonoxynol-9 (N-9). There are no hormones in the composition of the gel. As a spermicide, it attacks the acrosomal membranes of the sperm, causing the sperm to be immobilized.
Dosage and mode of application
Use the contraceptive gel as directed by your doctor. Read all the information careful-ly. Follow all instructions for use closely.
The vaginal gel can be used as a stand-alone contraceptive, or with a diaphragm or condom. It works on its own as hormone-free contraceptive or as a back up method for extra peace of mind.
Each box contains a tube of Options Gynol II along with a re-usable applicator. The gel is very economical. One tube contains the gel for at least 13 applications.
Do not take the gel by mouth. Do not use it rectally. The gel is for vaginal use only. Keep out of your mouth, eyes, and nose.
Wash your hands properly before and after use.
If you want to take a shower, wait at least 6 hours after last sexual intercourse.
The nonoxynol 9 gel works right away and lasts for up to 1 hour. You need to use the gel every time you have sex.
Overdose
If you think you have an overdose, call your poison control center or get medical care immediately. Tell a health care provider when, what, and how much you have taken.
Side effects
Options Gynol II contains no hormones and does not cause any hormonal side effects. However, in rare cases, some people may have side effects when using this gel. Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the following adverse reactions:
- Tightness in the chest or throat; rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; unusual hoarseness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat; trouble breathing;
- Trouble passing urine;
- Pain when urinating;
- Vaginal irritation;
- Burning in the vagina;
- Bad-smelling vaginal discharge;
- If your sex partner has irritation of the penis, trouble passing urine, or pain when urinating.
Contraindications
Do not use Options Gynol II gel if you have any of the following conditions:
- An allergy to nonoxynol 9 or any other part of the contraceptive gel;
- Pregnancy or suspected pregnancy.
Interactions
Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all drugs you are taking, including prescriptions, OTC drugs, natural products, and vitamins). You must do it to make sure that it is safe for you to use the nonoxynol 9 gel.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Do not use this product if you are pregnant.
Since this gel contains no hormones, it is considered a great contraceptive choice for when you’re breast feeding. However, it is recommended that you still consult a doctor prior to using Options Gynol II. You will need to discuss any risks to your baby.
What if I miss a pill?
This contraceptive vaginal gel is used on an as needed basis. Do not use it more often than recommended by the doctor.
Precautions
If you are pregnant or you get pregnant while using this product, contact your doctor right away.
This medicine does not prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections like HIV or hepatitis. Only a condom can protect you from such diseases.
This medicine may cause harm if swallowed. If nonoxynol 9 gel is swallowed, contact a doctor or poison control center immediately.
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Store in a dry place at room temperature. Protect from heat and cold. Do not store in a bathroom.
Do not use the expired gel.
