VCF Vaginal Contraceptive is a soluble film that turns into a spermicidal gel after it is inserted into the vagina. The drug is used to prevent pregnancy.

Indications for use
- Non-hormonal contraception.
Mechanism of action
Spermicides contained in the drug paralyze the sperm, destroy its cellular membranes, making fertilization of the egg impossible. Destruction of spermatozoa occurs very quickly- in just 1 minute. In addition to the contraceptive effect, VCF Vaginal Contraceptive also has a bactericidal effect – the active substance nonoxynol 9 neutralizes most of the bacteria that are sexually transmitted.
Mode of application
One thin film is inserted into the vagina just before the sexual intercourse:
- open the package, take the film, carefully separate one film from the protective sheets;
- insert it into the vagina 10-15 minutes prior to sexual intercourse;
- use a new film with each new sexual intercourse;
- do not wash the vagina within 6-8 hours after the insertion of the contraceptive film to avoid loss of contraceptive effect.
The birth control film can be used with a condom.
Vaginal film provides continuous contraceptive effect for 1 hour.
Contraindications
VCF Vaginal Contraceptive has the following contraindications:
- sensitivity to the components of the drug (nonoxynol 9),
- erosion of the cervix,
- salpingoophoritis,
- inflammation of the vagina;
- vaginitis;
- malignant tumors of the genital organs.
Side effects
In rare cases, the spermicidal film can cause adverse reactions:
- itching;
- burning in the vagina.
All unpleasant sensations are reversible and disappear after a short time.
Interactions
Other intravaginal drugs can reduce the spermicidal activity of the contraceptive film.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Incorrect use of spermicides can lead to unwanted pregnancy.
The drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy.
Spermicides can be used by breastfeeding women only after consulting a doctor.
Special instructions
- VCF Vaginal Contraceptive provides a low protection from pregnancy: 20-30 women out of 100 become pregnant;
- The film can be combined with a condom for a better protection from pregnancy;
- The vaginal contraceptive film is not a means of emergency contraception and cannot be used after sexual intercourse;
- If you have itching in the vagina, discontinue using the contraceptive;
- With regular use of the drug, the likelihood of side effects increases.
