Necon 7 / 7 / 7 is a triphasic birth control. This drug is prescribed to prevent an unwanted pregnancy by suppressing an ovulation.

Indications for use

This drug is prescribed as birth control. It can be also used additionally in the following health conditions:

  • menorrhagia;
  • endometreosis;
  • hypogonadism.

Mechanism of action

Necon 7 / 7 / 7 is a triphasic hormonal birth control. It obtains anti-aldosterone and anti-androgenic effects. The contraceptive effect of combined oral contraceptive drugs is achieved due to the combination of several factors. The most significant of these mechanisms is proved to be an inhibition of ovulation. The effect also lies in changes in the cervical secretions’ properties resulting in difficulty of the spermatozoa to enter the uterine cavity.

Mode of application and dosage

Necon 7 / 7 / 7 pills should be applied starting from the 1st day of the menstrual cycle. One dosage of the hormones in a tablet is taken daily for 28 days. The same time regimen should be preferably followed. A 7-day break is not required. The
menstruation will start during the application pills not containing hormones.

Contraindications

  • Thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the venous walls with the blockage);
  • Thromboembolic dysfunctions (disordered vessel patency);
  • Cerebrovascular disorders (vascular brain disorders);
  • Coronary heart diseases;
  • Expressed abnormal hepatic function;
  • Neoplasms of the organs of the genitourinary system;
  • Estrogen-dependent neoplasia (uterus);
  • Uterine bleeding of unclear genesis.

Side effects

Necon 7 / 7 / 7 can become a cause of the following side effects:

  • headache;
  • gastric colic;
  • nausea;
  • being sick with vomiting;
  • the mammary glands tenderness;
  • increase in body weight;
  • fluctuations in libido;
  • swings in mood;
  • eyelids swelling;
  • skin rash;
  • conjunctivitis;
  • vision disturbance;
  • hearing loss;
  • thrombophlebitis;
  • thromboembolism;
  • pruritus generalisatus;
  • jaundice;
  • intermenstrual bleeding.

Interactions

The level of the metabolism of steroid hormones can be increased when birth control taken simultaneously with barbiturates and some antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, phenytoin). A decrease in the effectiveness is manifested in the case of the simultaneous application with some antibiotics like ampicillin, rifampicin, which indicates a change in the gastrointestinal microflora. Necon 7 / 7 / 7 effectiveness is reduced in the case of the regular excessive intake of ethanol. When taking progestin -estrogen birth control drugs, the correction of the dosage of hypoglycemic drugs may be necessary.

What if I miss a dose?

If the patient skips the application of Necon 7 / 7 / 7 in the first 12 hours, the risk of getting pregnant is small. In this case, additional methods of contraception are not required. If the skipping of the pill took place within 36 hours or much more the contraceptive effect is significantly reduced. In this case, the additional contraceptive methods are in demand to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Necon 7/7/7 and pregnancy

This drug is not recommended for application during pregnancy and lactation. There is a risk that hormones enter breast milk, affecting the newborn health.
